Manchester United on Thursday lost their opening match at the Europa League to Feyenoord courtesy of a second half goal from Tonny Vilhena.

Jose Mourinho’s side put on a horrid display despite boasting of a better team. The Red Devils hardly created chances and Feyenoord were the better side.

Speaking after the game, Mourinho said:

“Of course I’m unhappy. We lose the game in a moment we didn’t deserve to.

“The second half, the game was even. We were always in control. We were trying to win, they were trying not to lose. It is double unlucky because it was a clear offside.

“The second half was better than the first.

“In the Europa League, we are going to be the team everyone wants to beat.”

Asked if players that came in failed to take their chance to impress, he said: “I don’t want to go in that direction. I don’t want to personalise. Obviously, some played better than others. It was the first game for some.

“We go back to a normal team without so many changes [against Watford].” he added.
