Real Madrid Beat Man City 3–0 As Valverde Scores Hat-Trick In UEFA Champions League

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

Real Madrid took firm control of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie after defeating Manchester City F.C. 3–0 in the first leg at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Okay News reports that the Midfielder Federico Valverde delivered a standout performance by scoring a hat-trick in the first half. The Uruguayan opened the scoring in the 20th minute after collecting a long pass and rounding the goalkeeper before finishing from a tight angle. He doubled the lead seven minutes later with a composed strike across goal.

Valverde completed his hat-trick shortly before halftime with a brilliant volley after controlling a lofted pass inside the box, leaving City with a mountain to climb in the second leg.

Manchester City had chances to respond but struggled to break through Real Madrid’s defence, while goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois produced key saves to keep a clean sheet. Real Madrid also missed the opportunity to extend their lead when Vinícius Júnior had a penalty saved in the second half.

The result puts Real Madrid in a commanding position ahead of the return leg, with Pep Guardiola’s side needing a major comeback to stay in the competition.
