Real Madrid returned to winning ways on Wednesday night with a 3–0 Laliga victory over Athletic Bilbao at San Mamés, ending a run of three consecutive league draws. A brace from Kylian Mbappé and a goal from Eduardo Camavinga sealed a confident performance in a stadium traditionally known for its difficulty.

Manager Carlo Ancelotti opted for a strong lineup, with Federico Valverde deployed on the right wing and wearing the captain’s armband. Trent Alexander-Arnold started behind him, providing additional attacking width.

Real Madrid exerted dominance early in the match, with Mbappé missing an initial opportunity before finding the opener within 10 minutes. Athletic Bilbao responded with a pair of chances but failed to capitalise, and their wastefulness proved costly when Camavinga doubled Madrid’s lead just before halftime.

Bilbao attempted to pressure Madrid after the restart, seeking an early breakthrough. However, another missed chance was swiftly punished as Mbappé struck again, securing his second of the night and effectively ending hopes of an Athletic comeback.

The visitors suffered a setback when Camavinga was forced off with an injury later in the match. Valverde came close to adding a fourth but was unable to convert a late opportunity. Madrid ultimately saw out the game with composure, clinching a much-needed victory that restores momentum in their league campaign.

The win keeps Real Madrid 2nd on the Laliga table with 36 points, only 1 point behind leaders Barcelona. The win could spark renewed optimism as Los Blancos enter the next big step of their fixtures.
