Nigerian singer Rema has opened up about the significant influences of Don Jazzy, 2Baba, and Olamide on his musical career.

In a recent interview with Apple Music, Rema shared how Don Jazzy’s distinctive production style, particularly from the Mo Hits Records era, played a pivotal role in shaping his sound.

“I feel like mostly I took a lot of inspiration from Mo Hits because from the first four seconds when a Mo Hits song comes in, you already know it’s a Mo Hits song,” Rema said.

“Don Jazzy just goes crazy on the beat.”

Rema also highlighted the impact of other Nigerian music legends, including Olamide, Psquare, 2Baba, and Timaya, on his artistic development.

“The time when Olamide used to drop crazy hits as well, he still drops crazy hits, you know, Psquare, 2Face, Timaya,” he noted.

Additionally, Rema expressed his admiration for Amapiano, the popular South African music genre, but reminisced about a time when Afrobeats dominated African club scenes with its electrifying production.

“Amapiano is great, Amapiano is fire but there used to be a time where Afrobeats production used to be so insane that nothing can survive in the club in Africa. You gotta play that Afrobeat,” he added.

“I am not saying we lost that, I am just saying we need more of that.”
