Kaduna, NIGERIA – The Member representing Kaduna North Federal Constituency, Hon. Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, has announced the commencement of tuition fee payments for financially vulnerable students at Kaduna State University (KASU).
Okay News gathered that the initiative, channeled through an ad hoc committee, pays the fees directly to the university management to ensure transparency. The scholarship fund is named after the family patriarch, Alhaji Bashir El-Rufai, and aims to support a total of 100 students in its current phase.
In a statement released on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, the lawmaker, who also serves as the Chairman of the House Committee on Banking Regulations, outlined specific inclusivity mandates for the selection process. The committee is required to ensure that the 100 beneficiaries include at least 20 women, 20 Christians, and 10 persons living with special abilities.
Hon. El-Rufai noted that this follows the success of Phase I, which was completed prior to his swearing-in and benefited over 200 students. While insisting that the committee must complete its task without external interference, the lawmaker encouraged students or parents who had previously reached out to him privately to do so again for personal follow-up.
The move is seen as a significant intervention in Kaduna State’s education sector, coming at a time when many students face financial hurdles due to rising educational costs.
