Abuja, Nigeria – Bashir Ahmad, a former presidential aide to the late ex-president Muhammadu Buhari has expressed concern over reports that several Nigerian soldiers, including four commanding officers, were killed by Boko Haram terrorists in Borno State within one week.
Okay News reports that Ahmad said if the reports are confirmed, it would indicate that the terrorist group may have regained the capacity to launch deadly attacks despite being previously weakened by military operations.
According to him, such developments would suggest that Boko Haram has found a way to regroup after earlier setbacks inflicted by Nigerian security forces.
He stressed that the situation would be deeply troubling for the country’s security if verified.
Ahmad also praised Nigerian soldiers for their sacrifices in defending the nation, noting that the armed forces continue to risk their lives to protect the country.
He urged the government and security leadership to respond swiftly and strategically to ensure that terrorist groups do not regain strength or threaten the stability of the country.
“The government and security leadership should act swiftly, decisively and strategically to prevent these terrorists from regaining strength or threatening the stability of our nation,” he said.
