The House of Representatives has passed a bill to amend the Police Act, allowing the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to serve out their term as stipulated in their appointment letter. This decision follows President Bola Tinubu’s request to amend the Principal Act to reflect the IGP’s tenure.

According to the lawmakers, the proposed legislation aims to enhance police operations by promoting accountability, modernizing policing methods, and fostering a harmonious relationship between the police and the community.

The bill was passed unanimously by lawmakers, who voted to expedite its passage.
