Local security guards in Ghana have rescued 18 Nigerian teenage girls from human traffickers. The girls, aged between 16 and 18, were lured to Ghana with promises of a better life but were instead forced into prostitution.

The victims, from various states including Imo, Plateau, Benue, and Anambra, revealed their harrowing experiences in a viral video. They were beaten, molested, and forced into prostitution without pay. Three sisters among the rescued girls had been missing, and their parents were unaware of their whereabouts.

The suspect, a Nigerian man, has been arrested and is in police custody. The rescue operation was made possible after a tip-off by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDO).

The Nigerian government has established a task force to combat human trafficking, working with security agencies and stakeholders to identify and prosecute traffickers and support victims.

The rescued girls are receiving medical and psychological care, and efforts are being made to reunite them with their families.

This incident highlights the alarming issue of human trafficking in Nigeria, where many victims are forced into prostitution, labor, and other forms of exploitation.

The government and human rights activists are calling for increased vigilance and stronger measures to combat human trafficking, providing opportunities for children and ensuring they are not vulnerable to false promises.
