IBADAN, Nigeria — Rescued pupils and teachers who were abducted from Ahoro Esinle School in the Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State arrived at the Oyo State Secretariat in Ibadan at 5:05 p.m. WAT on Monday, July 13, 2026, following their handover by the Federal Government to the state government.
A video shared by local media platform Oyo Affairs showed the victims alighting from a vehicle under heavy military security. Okay News reports that the Federal Government announced the successful rescue of the individuals on Friday, July 10, 2026, after security agencies secured their freedom.
Gunmen originally abducted the students and staff from the school facility on May 15, 2026. The victims regained their freedom following a 56-day captivity.
Before the handover, the rescued individuals received medical treatment and psychosocial support at the Military Hospital in Ibadan. The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, visited the victims at the facility on Saturday, July 11, 2026.
The All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Oyo State, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, also visited the rescued pupils and teachers at the hospital.
