Barbadian superstar Rihanna is using the platform of her Clara Lionel Foundation to help Malawi girls get to school with bicycles.

Billboard reports that the singer’s foundation together with bike-sharing service Ofo are working to fund scholarships for girls in the country. Their aim is to make transportation easy for the girls.

Ofo will also donate bikes to students who have transportation issues to tackle some regional transportation challenges increasingly causing students to dropout of schools.

In a clip released by the ‘Good-girl-gone-bad’ singer, she shared some information about her trip and her experiences.

“It’s such a pity that they have to drop out because they are so smart, everybody’s learning together and learning at the same pace, it seems. It’s sad that has to end for some of them because they could probably do so much if they had the resources to continue and complete.”

This partnership between Rihanna’s Clara Lionel Foundation and Ofo is titled ‘1 KM Action’ and will operate for five years. This was announced on their Instagram pages Tuesday.

According to the singer, who spoke about the partnership in a statement released on Wednesday, she is excited about the new partnership with Ofo because “it will help so many young people around the world with quality education and also help the young girls of Malawi get to school safely, cutting down those very long walks they make to and from school all alone.”

The singer has recently dived deep into her advocacy for global education. Towards the end of July, she visited the President of France to discuss ways her initiative can be achieved.
