Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has denied reports that he promised to pay a minimum wage of ₦80,000 to workers in the state and local government areas.

Nelson Chukwudi, Chief Press Secretary to the governor described the reports as “unverified claims” and “totally false and misleading” in a statement on Friday.

Okay.ng reports that the denial follows online reports that the governor had proposed the increased minimum wage, which circulated widely among civil servants in the state.

The government has urged the public and civil servants to disregard the false claims, promising to make its position on the issue known in due course.
