Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed that the state remains one of the safest and most peaceful destinations in Nigeria for tourism, investment and business activities. He made this known during the All Nigeria Rotary Conference, Port Harcourt 2025, held on Saturday in the state capital. Okay News reports.
The governor, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba, expressed delight that the choice of Port Harcourt for the national conference had once again highlighted the hospitality, calm environment and supportive nature of the people of the state.
He told participants, “We deeply appreciate your choice of the city of Port Harcourt as your place of convergence, and heartily welcome this gathering of business leaders, policy makers and global partners to the Garden City and the legendary hospitality of the jewel of the Niger Delta.” He added that their presence served as “a testament, and a tick of pass mark on the scorecard that Rivers State is indeed peaceful and safe”.
Governor Fubara also appealed to the Rotary District of Nigeria to strengthen collaboration with the Rivers State Government, particularly in empowering the large population of young people. He encouraged the organisation to assist in mentoring young citizens to develop skills and values that would guide them towards productive lifestyles.
According to him, “The Rotary Club should partner with the Government in mentoring energetic youths, to steer them away from social vices, and to direct their focus on positive endeavours that will help them realise their God-given potentials for their personal growth and service to humanity”.
He further advised members of the Rotary community to continue to promote peace, inclusion and justice across the country. The governor stated, “Act as mediators, practitioners and propagators of ethnic and religious tolerance, fairness, justice and equity, peace and unity, to stem the tide of disaffection in the polity”.
The District Governor of Rotary International District 9141 for the 2025 to 2026 year, Anthony Woghiren, commended members of the organisation for their dedication to uplifting communities. He expressed gratitude for their commitment to sustaining Rotary’s global image of service and impact. “As we gather in Port Harcourt for this landmark conference, we are inspired anew to unite for good, deepen our impact and prepare for greater possibilities ahead,” he said.
During the event, Governor Fubara was honoured with the Peace Advocate Award by Rotary District of Nigeria in recognition of his steady efforts in sustaining peace and stability in Rivers State.
The governor has repeatedly maintained that his administration is focused on delivering concrete developments, increasing welfare programmes for youths and fulfilling democratic promises for the people of the state.
