Aston Villa extended their winning streak to 10 matches in all competitions on Sunday evening, after a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Manchester United at the Villa Park.

Rogers, who scored a brace opened the scoring in the 45th minute, just before half-time with a superb finish. United responded almost immediately as Matheus Cunha capitalised on a defensive error to level the match in first-half stoppage time. Villa regained control early in the second half when Rogers struck again in the 57th minute, curling home his second goal to restore the hosts’ lead.

Despite late pressure from Manchester United, including a stoppage-time free-kick that narrowly missed the target, Unai Emery’s side held on for a famous win.

The result lifts Aston Villa to third place in the league, moving them within touching distance of the top, while United were left to reflect on missed chances and another frustrating away outing.
