Gambia-born Nigerian actress Rosy Meurer has publicly responded to online critics following renewed attention around her husband, Nigerian businessman Olakunle Churchill, and his former wife, actress Tonto Dikeh.
The reaction comes weeks after Churchill and Dikeh, who were previously married and share a son, were seen together at a public reunion involving their child. The reunion generated discussion across Nigerian social media platforms, with some users directing comments at Meurer.
Addressing the situation through a series of posts on her Instagram story, Meurer said she had decided to speak for herself after receiving direct messages and public comments about her marriage. She stressed that her life and personal decisions are not subject to public control.
“You think I will live in bondage and be quiet and die inside? Na love I love, I no kill person, and if (God forbid) circumstances happen that I am no longer comfortable in marriage, I will leave without you fools being the reason behind it.
“You all open your mouths to be telling me why say this or why say that! I should not speak my truth. When you daily pour out trash that you know nothing about on my page, it is okay. But when it’s time for me to tell you the truth, you so wish was otherwise I should keep quiet” she added.
Meurer also rejected claims circulating online that she had once been friends with Dikeh or that she previously worked as Churchill’s personal assistant. She described those allegations as false and said she would not accept what she called misinformation about her past.
“You think people are fols. All you idits sit and open your sour mouths commenting on my page day and night about how I stole my friend’s husband or how I was a PA which I wasn’t and you don’t want me to say my truth? I should live with the lies.
“I’ve been on my own since, minding my business and respecting myself but all of you evil witches will come out every eke market day to say shit all the time cuz I chose to be quiet but this is the height of it. If I don’t speak up for myself no one will. Make I dey fear una say wetin happen.” she added.
The controversy follows a period of renewed public contact between Churchill and Dikeh, who had a highly publicised separation several years ago. Their recent appearance together with their son reignited online debates about past events and current relationships.
Okay News reports that Meurer had earlier denied being friends with Dikeh before marrying Churchill. At the time, she said she had never met the actress prior to her relationship with the businessman.
The exchange highlights the intense scrutiny that public figures in Nigeria often face on social media, particularly when personal relationships become subjects of public discussion. For many celebrities, digital platforms provide both visibility and vulnerability, with private matters frequently debated by strangers.
For Meurer, the issue appears to centre on personal autonomy. Her message to critics was clear that she would make decisions about her marriage independently and would not remain silent in response to allegations she considers untrue.
It remains unclear whether any further public statements will follow, but the social media exchanges have already drawn widespread attention among entertainment followers in Nigeria and beyond.
