LAGOS, Nigeria – Nigerian singer Paul Okoye, known professionally as Rudeboy, has said he may never forgive his twin brother, Peter Okoye, as their long-running dispute goes beyond music and centres on family trust.
Okay News reports that Rudeboy made the remarks in an interview published on Sunday, offering a rare account of the emotional strain behind the latest breakdown of their relationship.
The brothers built one of Africa’s best-known pop acts as P-Square before pursuing solo careers as Rudeboy and Mr P. Their partnership has been interrupted by repeated disagreements, a separation in 2017, a reunion in 2021 and another public rupture in 2024.
Rudeboy said the latest conflict had damaged the trust the twins once shared and could not be treated simply as a disagreement over their music or the P-Square brand.
“I don’t think I can forgive my twin brother. What happened is something I never expected from my own blood,” he said.
He added: “The problem is not music. It’s deeper than that. It’s about family, trust and betrayal.”
The singer did not give fresh details in the interview about the particular action he was referring to, but said the effects of the dispute had made reconciliation difficult despite appeals from fans and well-wishers.
Rudeboy also said he had remained silent on several occasions to protect the family’s public image and avoid extending the controversy.
The latest comments add to uncertainty about the future of P-Square. The twins reunited in November 2021 after spending about four years apart, briefly reviving hopes that they would record and perform together on a sustained basis.
Those hopes faded after the relationship deteriorated again. In August 2024, Peter publicly addressed the rift with Paul in an open letter, reflecting the depth of the renewed disagreement.
Rudeboy said he is now concentrating on his children, personal growth and solo music career while placing greater value on his peace of mind.
