Authorities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have announced that the moon crescent marking the beginning of Shawwal and the end of Ramadan has not been sighted.

As a result, Ramadan fasting will extend for 30 days, with Eid-el-Fitr celebrations scheduled for Wednesday in the Kingdom.

In a statement issued on Monday, Haramain, a Saudi-based online resource outfit, confirmed the news, stating: “The crescent moon was NOT sighted in Saudi Arabia. Therefore, Eid Al Fitr will be celebrated on Wednesday, 10th April 2024.”

This announcement aligns with the guidance provided by Muhammad Abubakar, Sultan of Sokoto, who had earlier urged Muslims in Nigeria to look out for the new moon of Shawwal 1445 AH on Monday, April 7.

Eid-el-Fitr, often referred to as the “Festival of Breaking the Fast,” marks the conclusion of the holy month of Ramadan, during which Muslims fast from dawn to sunset. It is a joyous occasion celebrated with prayers, feasting, and acts of charity and goodwill.
