Acting National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Dr. Sadiq Umar Abubakar Gombe, has declared corruption and bad leadership as the root causes crippling Nigeria, robbing citizens of hope, security, and prosperity.
Okay News reports that in a hard-hitting interview, Gombe described the nation’s crisis as deliberate, stemming from entrenched fraudulent practices in government and political parties.
He insisted that fixing leadership requires first cleansing political parties themselves.
Gombe revealed that the SDP recently expelled former National Chairman Alhaji Musa Gabam, National Youth Leader Chief Ogbonna Ugochukwu, and the National Auditor after an audit uncovered alleged serious financial misconduct.
An investigative committee sat for two weeks, offering the accused a chance to defend themselves, but only the auditor appeared.
A white paper committee subsequently recommended expulsion, endorsed by 12 out of 15 National Working Committee members.
Gombe dismissed claims of internal crisis, affirming the action was constitutional and aimed at protecting party integrity.
He accused the current administration of policies that punish ordinary Nigerians, deepening poverty through excessive taxation.
Gombe warned that altered gazetted policies reflect widespread corruption, while low voter turnout—resulting in a president elected by less than nine per cent of registered voters—threatens democracy.
The SDP chairman positioned his party as a credible alternative for 2027, rooted in welfarism, justice, and service.
He urged youths and women, hardest hit by current policies, to join the SDP, emphasising openness to leaders with capacity, character, and courage.
Gombe downplayed governor defections, stating the SDP has “no skeletons” and focuses on national rescue rather than opportunistic alliances.
He called on Nigerians to register, vote, and reclaim the country, declaring the SDP ready to deliver better leadership built on transparency and accountability.
