Kuru, Nigeria – Security operatives repelled an attempt by suspected armed assailants to breach the country’s National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies in Plateau State at 11:00 p.m. WAT (GMT+1) on Wednesday, July 1, 2026 killing one attacker during a gun battle.
Okay News reports that the Head of Public Affairs for the institution, Dr. Osime Samuel, issued a statement on Thursday detailing the incident. The attackers engaged security personnel in an exchange of gunfire but retreated following a swift response by security forces.
One of the assailants was killed during the gun battle, while several others fled with varying degrees of injuries. The attackers failed to penetrate the security perimeter, and all participants of the Senior Executive Course, staff, residents, and facilities remained safe.
Security agencies intensified efforts to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects. Surveillance and other proactive security measures were reinforced within and around the institution.
The institution urged the public to disregard misinformation capable of causing panic. The incident occurred weeks after gunmen previously attacked the facility in an attempt to gain access to the premises.
