IBADAN, Nigeria: The Southwest Security Stakeholders Group called on the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Oyo State Government on Thursday to take action to secure the release of kidnapped individuals in Oyo State.
Okay News reports that the coalition of 14 security organisations issued a statement through its Publicity Secretary, Ireti Adewole, demanding intervention for abducted citizens in the Oorelope Local Government Area and Ogbomoso.
The group detailed the abduction of Kuburat Omowumi and her son on June 16, 2026, in Igbope, alongside the earlier kidnapping of 42 pupils and teachers on May 15, 2026, from the Baptist Nursery and Primary School in Yawota, L.A. Primary School, and Community Grammar School in Esiele.
Adewole said, “The kidnapping of school children is a particularly heinous crime that disrupts education and traumatises families and communities. The government must prioritise their rescue operations and ensure that such incidents do not recur.”
The coalition, which includes the Oodua People’s Congress and the Agbekoya Society, requested a regional security strategy involving state and local government policing.
State authorities and security agencies have stated that rescue operations are ongoing and information is being restricted to protect the lives of the captives.
