The Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has confirmed the appointment of new members to the Board of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), the country’s telecommunications regulatory authority.

Following the presentation and adoption of the report by its Committee on Communications, the Senate on Tuesday confirmed Idris Ibikunle Olorunnimbe, representing the South West geopolitical zone, as Chairman of the NCC Board.

According to the Committee’s report, the confirmation followed a “successful screening process,” during which all nominees were found competent and qualified to serve.

In addition to Olorunnimbe, the Senate also confirmed Maryam Bayi (North East), Senator Ramoni Olalekan Mustafa (South West), and Ikechukwu Ugwuegede (South East) as NCC Commissioners.

Other members confirmed to the NCC Board include Princess Oforitsenere Emiko (South South) and Christopher Sandy Okorie (South South).

These new appointees join existing members of the Commission’s leadership, including the Executive Vice Chairman, Dr. Aminu Maida (North West), Executive Commissioner, Technical Services, Engineer Abraham Oshadami (North Central), and Executive Commissioner, Stakeholder Management, Rimini H. Makama (North Central), who had been previously confirmed by the Senate.

Speaking on the confirmation, a source at the National Assembly said the appointments reflect “a balanced regional representation and a strategic effort to strengthen Nigeria’s digital governance framework.”

Okay News reports that the Senate’s approval is part of ongoing efforts by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to enhance leadership and policy coordination across critical national regulatory bodies.

The Head of Public Affairs at the Nigerian Communications Commission, Mrs. Nnenna Ukoha, confirmed the development in an official statement dated November 5, 2025.

“The Nigerian Senate has officially confirmed the appointment of the Chairman and Commissioners of the NCC Board following due legislative process,” Ukoha stated.

The newly confirmed Board is expected to work closely with the Commission’s management to further strengthen regulatory oversight, ensure fair competition, and expand broadband access across Nigeria’s fast-growing digital economy.
