The Senate on 15th of December, 2022, confirmed Aishah Ahmad and Edward Adamu for second terms in their roles as deputy governor for Financial System Stability and deputy governor for Corporate Services at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

The confirmation follows their recent screening by the Senate Committee on Banking, which was requested by President Muhammadu Buhari in accordance with section 8(1) of the CBN (Establishment) Act 2007. This act requires that the governor and deputy governor be individuals with recognized financial experience, appointed by the president and confirmed by the Senate, with the terms and conditions of their appointments outlined in their respective letters.

During the confirmation process, the committee’s chairman, Senator Uba Sani, confirmed that both candidates met the necessary requirements.

Mrs Ahmad has spent over 26 years in the financial sector, with a focus on finance and policy, and has gained recognition as a CFA charter holder and a graduate of the University of Abuja, the University of Lagos, and Cranfield University in the UK.

She also holds the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) designation and is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria.

Mrs Ahmad was originally nominated as CBN deputy governor in 2017, and has demonstrated her expertise in maintaining stability in Nigeria’s banking sector during her first term, even amid market turbulence.

Mr Adamu was first nominated as CBN deputy governor in 2018, following a long career with the bank that began in 1983 and saw him rise to the position of Director of Human Resources.

He holds a BSc in Quantity Surveying from Ahmadu Bello University and is a fellow of both the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors and the Institute of Credit Administration.
