The Nigerian Senate has confirmed the appointment of Dr. Kingsley Tochukwu Ude, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) from Enugu State in the South-East region, as a new Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The confirmation followed a formal request from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who had written to the Senate seeking Ude’s screening and approval in accordance with Section 147 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

During Tuesday’s plenary session at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja, Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the confirmation after the nominee successfully passed through the screening process conducted by the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges.

According to Okay News reports, Dr. Ude, who hails from Nsukka in Enugu State, has an extensive background in constitutional law, public administration, and governance reform. Lawmakers commended his professional achievements and described him as a “credible technocrat” who could contribute meaningfully to national development.

Senator Okechukwu Ezea, representing Enugu North Senatorial District, described Ude’s nomination as a “welcome step that will strengthen South-East representation in the Federal Executive Council,” adding that his expertise “will be vital in advancing legal and policy reforms.”

President Tinubu, in his nomination letter read to the Senate, expressed confidence that Dr. Ude’s appointment would support the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at fostering economic recovery, rule of law, and inclusive national growth.

Dr. Ude, in his remarks after the confirmation, pledged to serve with integrity and dedication, saying: “I consider this an opportunity to contribute to building a stronger, fairer, and more prosperous Nigeria. I will bring my professional experience to bear in the service of our nation.”

The newly confirmed minister is expected to be sworn in at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, in the coming days.
