The Nigerian Senate has confirmed the nomination of Justice John Tosho as the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court.
Okay.ng recalls that President Muhammadu Buhari had last week in a letter asked the red chambers of the National Assembly to confirm Tosho as Federal High Court Judge.
The letter reads in quotes:
“Pursuant to Section 250(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended), I hereby write to request for confirmation by the Senate, the appointment of Honourable Justice J.T. Tsoho as the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court of Nigeria.
“While I trust that the Senate will consider this request in the usual expeditious manner, Please accept, Distinguished Senate President, the assurances of my highest consideration.”

Meanwhile, the lawmakers proceeded on confirming Justice Tosho after receiving a report from Chairman, Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters, Senator Michael Bamidele.
Bamidele said while presenting the report that the appointment became necessary as a result of the retirement of Justice Adamu AbdulKafarati after attaining the retirement age of 65 years as provided by Section 291(2) of the Constitution.
“In compliance with this requirement the erstwhile Chief Judge, retired on July 25, thus making the position of the Chief Judge of the Court, vacant,” he said in quotes.
In the same vein, the Senate also confirmed Justice Benedict Kanyip as the President of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria.
