The Senate has confirmed Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa for a second four-year term as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC).

The confirmation followed the adoption of a report by the Senate Committee on Power, which screened and found the nominee suitable for reappointment.

Committee Chairman, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, said Yelwa met all requirements during the screening and demonstrated competence to continue leading the commission.

Lawmakers across party lines supported his reappointment, commending his previous performance at the agency.

The Senate approved the nomination through a voice vote after Senate President Godswill Akpabio put the matter to the floor.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had earlier forwarded Yelwa’s name for confirmation, seeking continuity in the leadership of the commission overseeing hydroelectric power-producing communities.
