President Bola Tinubu has written to the Senate seeking the confirmation of Dr. Bernard Mohammed Doro as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction.

The president’s request was contained in a letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during plenary on Wednesday.

Doro’s nomination follows the election of Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, the former minister, as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in July.

In his letter, President Tinubu said the nomination was made in accordance with the provisions of Section 147(2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

“In compliance with the provisions of section 147(2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended, I am pleased to forward to the Senate the nomination of Dr Bernard Mohammed Doro for confirmation as Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the letter read.

The president also urged lawmakers to expedite action on the screening process.

“While I hope that this request will receive the usual expeditious consideration of the Senate, please accept, distinguished Senate President and distinguished senators, the assurances of my highest regards,” he added.

Responding after reading the letter, Senate President Akpabio referred the nomination to the Committee of the Whole for consideration.

“This is referred to the Committee of the Whole, to revert to the appointor as soon as practicable,” Akpabio said.

Dr. Bernard Doro, from Plateau State, is a seasoned professional with over two decades of experience in clinical practice, pharmaceutical management, and strategic leadership across the United Kingdom and Nigeria.
