Members of the senate adhoc committee on Zaria killing will today meet members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria at the National Assembly.

This was revealed by the chairman of the Senate Committee on Police Affairs, Senator Abu Ibrahim.

It will be recalled that the convoy of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen Tukur Buratai had weeks ago ran into the procession of movement’s members in Zaria, Kaduna state resulting in a clash.

Senate President Bukola Saraki had four days after the clash, announced the constitution of a 16-man special committee headed by the Chairman of the Senate committee on Defence, Senator Ahmed Lawan (APC, Yobe North).

According to Ibrahim who is a member of the committee said they would grill the movement members today in order to get first hand information about the clash.

“You know we are on recess but we have decided to meet tomorrow (today) on the Zaria killings. We are meeting with some members of the sect. We will discuss with them in order to have first hand information on the matter. All arrangements have been completed on this,” he said.

He said the meeting would not be open to the public, “because of the sensitivity nature of the issue it will be in closed door.”

He said, “We members of the adhoc committee have met on several occasions on the matter and we are working hard to do our investigation well. We will make our findings public afterwards but for now, we are doing our job in secret.”

On when the panel would be meeting the army chief and the leader of the movement, Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky, he said; “I don’t know but from tomorrow’s meeting we will know our bearing.”
