Senate President Godswill Akpabio has refuted claims that the Senate is set to approve the purchase of a new presidential jet for President Bola Tinubu. Akpabio stated during Thursday’s plenary session in Abuja that while the Senate will consider a request for a new jet if necessary, there is currently no such request before them.

Akpabio described the claims as “anticipatory blackmail” and emphasized that the Senate is committed to doing what is best for Nigerians. He also referenced previous incidents of defective planes leading to the death of foreign leaders, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing safety.

The Senate President assured that the National Assembly is responsible and will carefully consider issues that benefit the country’s governance. He urged the public to ignore the “blackmail” and focus on the Senate’s efforts to serve the nation.
