The Senate has rejected representatives of the Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba, at its hearing today, claiming that the IGP must appear in person.
The IGP had passed on a Deputy Inspector General of police (DIG) to introduce him at the meeting before the senators but he was asked to leave the chamber by the legislators.
According to the Daily Trust the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Kenneth Minimah has just completed briefing the senators, as the DG SSS and Chief of Air Staff are to follow case soon.
The Senate has been considering President Jonathan’s request for a further extension of emergency rule in the three north eastern states.
The service chiefs were to brief the Senate last week Thursday but were unable to do so because of the security crises in the National Assembly.
Despite the expiration of emergency rule in Adamawa, Yobe and Borno states, the Senate has gone into a closed door meeting with service chiefs to discuss the extension of emergency rule in the three Northeastern states.
The service chiefs present at the meeting are the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Kenneth Minimah and the Director General of the Department of State Security, Mr Ita Ekpenyong.
It was reported earlier that the police prevented the house Speaker, Aminu Tambuwal and other lawmakers’ from gaining access into the House of Representatives complex in Abuja.
