Senate Summons Kachikwu Over Multi-billion Oil Deals With China, India

The Senate on Tuesday asked the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Mr. Ibe Kachikwu to appear before a joint committee to explain a multiple multi-billion oil deals with India and China.

The invitation followed a motion moved by Senator Clifford Ordia (PDP, Edo) who noted that though the deals had good potentials on the face value, some explanations were necessary to know what exactly the country was being committed to by the agreements.

Mr. Kachikwu is expected to appear before the Senate joint committees on Petroleum (Upstream), Gas and Foreign Affairs to give detailed explanation on $15 billion proposed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Government and another $80 billion MoU signed with Chinese firms.
