Abuja, Nigeria – The Nigerian Senate on Tuesday suspended its plenary session to honour the late Barinada Mpigi, who died on February 19, 2026.

Okay News reports that the session was presided over by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, who led lawmakers in observing a minute of silence in honour of the late legislator. Mpigi represented the Rivers South-East Senatorial District until his death.

The late senator, who died at the age of 64, served as chairman of the Senate Committee on Works and was known for his efforts toward improving Nigeria’s road infrastructure through legislative work and oversight activities.

Following the tribute, the Senate adjourned plenary and announced that legislative proceedings will resume on Wednesday, March 11, 2026.
