The Nigerian Senate committee on Youths and Sports has threaten to send the National Lottery Commission to shut down all offices of a betting company, Bet9ja, if it fails to honour its invitation the second time.

Obinna Ogba, the committee chairman, disclosed this during the verification of Lotto companies operating in Nigeria on Tuesday.

He said the decision by the firm not to honour its invitation was unfortunate.

Ogba then asked the clerk to send another invitation which “If they did not honour our invitation again, we will ask the National Lottery Commission to seal their offices.”

The chairman explained that the verification followed series of complaints against the betting companies, adding that ”some don’t even have offices while others have not been making remittances to the government.”

”Some got the licences but they are not operating. The new regulation only give them one year to start operations,” he noted.
