Senator Adetokunbo Abiru, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and other Financial Institutions, has been elected as the new Chairman of the Southern Senators’ Forum (SSF), taking over from Senator Opeyemi Bamidele.

Abiru’s emergence followed a meeting of senators from the South-East, South-West, and South-South regions in Abuja.

He expressed his commitment to championing the interests of Nigeria and Nigerians, emphasizing collaboration with the Northern Senators’ Forum (NSF) to advance the nation’s progress.

“This forum, the Southern Senators’ Forum, is to champion the course of Nigeria and Nigerians,” Abiru stated during a news conference in Abuja.

“We will work together with the Northern Senators’ Forum to move the country forward.”

He outlined plans to roll out initiatives for the betterment of the southern region and Nigeria as a whole, underlining the importance of effective leadership and collaboration among members.

“We will work out our plans. The last leadership has transferred power to us, and we have been running the forum as if we don’t exist.

“The present leader of the Senate was the leader of the Southern Senators’ Forum, he was too engaged on other issues, but we now have new leadership which is headed by me,” Abiru said.

Senator Victor Umeh was appointed Vice Chairman of the forum, while Senator Mpigi Barinada assumed the role of Secretary.

Other positions include Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong as the Public Relations Officer and Senator Kenneth Eze as the Treasurer.
