Senator Dino Melaye has been released from detention following his arrest by men of the Nigerian Immigration Service at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Monday.

Melaye, who represents Kogi West , had announced his arrest on Twitter, with Immigration officials revealing that he was nabbed based on an order from Interpol.

Senator Shehu Sani has also confirmed the lawmaker’s release.

Police had on April 3 warned the Senator to appear in court ahead of his arraignment on May 10, 2018.

The lawmaker is to be arraigned on a case of conspiracy and unlawful possession of prohibited firearms already filed before a Federal High Court in Lokoja, Kogi state.

He had earlier failed to honour the invitation and a court summon issued him by the police on March 24.
