A senior Russian military officer has been killed in a car bombing in Moscow, marking the latest in a series of high-profile attacks linked to the ongoing Russia–Ukraine war.
Russia’s Investigative Committee confirmed that Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov died on Monday after an explosive device detonated beneath a vehicle on a street in the Russian capital.
According to investigators, the explosion was caused by a bomb planted under the car, triggering a criminal investigation into what authorities have described as a targeted killing. Russian officials said several possible motives are being examined, including the claim that the attack may have been organised by Ukrainian intelligence services. Ukraine has not commented on the allegation.
The incident adds to growing security concerns in Moscow, following similar attacks that have killed senior Russian officers in recent years.
In previous cases, Russia has blamed Ukrainian security agencies, while Kyiv has neither confirmed nor denied involvement.
