Seplat Energy Plc, an oil and gas exploration and production company with operations in Nigeria and London, has responded to recent media reports regarding the residency status of its CEO, Mr. Roger Brown

In a statement issued on Thursday, the company refuted the allegations, describing them as false and calculated to spread misinformation.

The company also stated that it had not been formally notified of the allegations by the petitioners, and that it would engage with the Ministry of Interior to reject the false impressions created by the allegations.

According to Seplat Energy, the allegations against Mr. Brown are a spurious and vindictive reaction to the enforcement of corporate governance standards in the company by the board of Seplat Energy.

The company’s board unanimously passed a vote of confidence in Mr. Brown on March 8th, 2023, citing his unblemished record of service and leadership in the company over the past decade.

The statement by Seplat Energy reads in part: “Over the past decade, Mr. Brown has earned an unblemished record of service and leadership in the Company. The orchestrated media reports are clearly calculated to spread false information. Seplat Energy will be engaging with the Ministry to reject the impressions created by these allegations.”

The company’s response to the allegations was made in accordance with Rule 17.10 of the Rulebook of the Nigerian Exchange, 2015 (Issuer’s Rule).
