SIFAX Group, a prominent Nigerian business conglomerate with diverse investments spanning Maritime, Aviation, Oil & Gas, Haulage & Logistics, Financial Services, and Hospitality, has announced the appointment of Basil Agboarumi as its new Executive Director, Corporate and Intergovernmental Affairs.

Agboarumi, who recently concluded his tenure as the Managing Director/CEO of Skyway Aviation Handling Company Plc. (SAHCO Plc.), a subsidiary of SIFAX Group, brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of accomplishments to his new role.

With educational qualifications including a National Diploma (OND) in Mass Communication from the Federal Polytechnic, Auchi, a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Mass Communication from the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, a Master’s in Communications (MSc) from Lagos State University, and a Certificate in Creative Design & Digital Communications from the School of Media & Communications at the Pan-Atlantic University, Lagos, Agboarumi is well-equipped for his new responsibilities. Additionally, he holds a Management Certificate in Civil Aviation from Concordia University, Montreal, Canada.

Agboarumi’s journey with SIFAX Group began after the privatization and acquisition of SAHCOL in 2009, where he assumed the role of Head of Corporate Communications. He played a pivotal role in re-branding the company and showcasing its capabilities in passenger handling, ramp handling, and cargo handling. In 2018, Agboarumi was appointed as the Managing Director of SAHCO Plc., leading the company to be listed on the Nigeria Stock Exchange and securing strategic business deals with various local and international airlines.

Throughout his professional career, which spans over 25 years, Agboarumi has demonstrated expertise in public relations, reputation management, brand development, media relations, business development, and government relations.

Commenting on the appointment, Dr. Taiwo Afolabi, Chairman of SIFAX Group, expressed confidence in Agboarumi’s ability to excel in his new role.

Afolabi highlighted Agboarumi’s leadership during his tenure at SAHCO, navigating challenges such as the global uncertainties brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic and steering the company to profitability.

Dr. Afolabi stated, “He demonstrated the capacity and ability to navigate different terrains as a leader during his time as the Managing Director of SAHCO. The COVID-19 pandemic hit shortly after he took over the reins at SAHCO, but he was able to steer the ship of the company to profitability despite the uncertainties that characterized the global aviation business at the time. I am convinced the Group will benefit tremendously from his wealth of experience as he assumes this new role.”
