Okay News reports that Liverpool manager Arne Slot has dismissed concerns surrounding Mohamed Salah’s current goal drought, expressing confidence that the Egyptian forward will soon rediscover his scoring form.
Salah, who has netted only three goals this season — one from the penalty spot — has failed to score in his last six appearances. His most recent outing saw him play just 16 minutes as a substitute during Liverpool’s midweek Champions League victory over Eintracht Frankfurt.
The 32-year-old’s dip in form stretches back to March, with only five goals recorded in his last 23 matches. Despite this, Slot insists that the Egyptian’s dry spell is temporary.
“I don’t know if it’s sharpness or not. It’s so difficult; I could come up with a few reasons which I’m not sure are the reasons,” Slot said in a chat with ESPN late Friday. “Football players miss chances and Mo is a human being as well. We are not used to him missing chances, let alone a few in a row, but these things can happen.”
Slot added that he remains untroubled by Salah’s situation, maintaining faith in his proven ability to deliver. “The main thing is Mo has always scored goals for our club, and the last thing I worry about is Mo starting to score goals again. That is what he has done his whole life and that is what I expect him to do in the upcoming weeks and months,” he said.
Liverpool’s summer reshuffle, which included the departure of Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid and the arrival of several new signings worth £450 million, has also been cited as a reason for the team’s ongoing adjustments.
“I think Salah has been in promising positions often enough to score goals, but maybe with Trent even more — I don’t know,” Slot noted. “In general, if you have quite a few changes in your squad during the summer, everyone has to find new connections again. Mo is not an exception to this.”
As Liverpool prepare for their Premier League clash away to Brentford on Saturday evening, all eyes will be on Salah to rediscover his trademark finishing touch. The Egyptian has historically thrived against the Bees, scoring six times in seven appearances.
The Reds, however, continue to battle injury setbacks, with Jeremie Frimpong and Alisson Becker ruled out due to hamstring injuries. Updates are awaited on Alexander Isak, who suffered a groin problem midweek, and Ryan Gravenberch, who missed the trip to Germany with an ankle issue.
