Sokoto Deputy Governor, Ahmed Aliyu Resigns

The deputy governor of Sokoto state, Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto has reportedly resigned.

Ahmed is the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) within the state and he’s expected to contest in opposition to his former boss, Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, who might fly the flag of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on the gubernatorial ballot in 2019 elections.

According to Daily Trust, the deputy governor was not compelled to resign. The newspaper quoted a source as saying that Ahmed resigned voluntarily and “we will not hesitate to accept his resignation.”

Ahmed was stated to have submitted a copy of his resignation to the state House of Assembly but it was not read on the floor of the House during the sitting on Tuesday, November 13.

“It is good that he resigned honourably because he would save himself from unexpected humiliation and in addition save his relationship with the governor,” he stated.
