Governor Chukwuma Soludo has praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and its new chairman, Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan, for what he described as the most credible and well-organised governorship election ever held in Anambra State.
Soludo, who was re-elected in the poll conducted on Saturday, commended the commission’s performance and lauded Amupitan’s leadership during his first major electoral outing.
Speaking shortly after being declared the winner, Soludo said, “This is your first outing, and as the saying goes, you don’t have a second chance to create a first impression. I am very excited that your very first impression is a very emphatic one.” He emphasised that INEC’s delivery of the election process reflected a steady improvement in electoral conduct since the commission began integrating technology into the voting system in 2017.
According to the governor, each successive election in Anambra has shown progress, but the 2025 governorship poll stands out as the most efficient and transparent. “It is fair to say that this is the best that you have organised so far in Anambra,” Soludo declared.
The governor’s remarks signal growing confidence in INEC’s evolving electoral framework, especially under new leadership. His endorsement of Amupitan’s debut performance may also reflect broader optimism about the future of Nigeria’s democratic processes, particularly in states with complex political landscapes like Anambra.
Soludo’s commendation comes amid ongoing national conversations about electoral integrity, voter participation, and the role of technology in enhancing transparency. As INEC continues to refine its systems, the Anambra experience may serve as a model for future elections across the country.
