Abuja, NIGERIA – Vice-President Kashim Shettima has revealed that some individuals allegedly told President Bola Tinubu shortly after they took office that he was plotting to assassinate him and seize power.
Speaking during the launch of former Head of State Yakubu Gowon’s autobiography, Shettima said the claims surfaced barely three months after the administration came into office.
According to him, the individuals — whom he said were from Borno State — accused him of planning to use traditional clothes he gifted Tinubu to harm the president spiritually.
“Some people told Tinubu I was planning to kill him to take over power,” Shettima said while recounting a private conversation with the president.
Okay News reports that Shettima said Tinubu dismissed the allegations after questioning the logic behind them, noting that the clothes were given before both men became president and vice-president candidates.
He added that Tinubu later wore the clothes despite the warnings because the president did not believe in such claims.
Shettima also urged Nigerians to avoid division and instead promote unity and trust among one another.
