Human rights activist and politician Omoyele Sowore has been declared wanted by the Lagos State Police Command over alleged plans to disrupt public peace through a mass protest within the state.

Police authorities say the planned protest, scheduled to take place across major parts of Lagos, was not approved and could lead to a breakdown of law and order. The Command stated that Sowore and his associates had been mobilizing groups to cause unrest, particularly along major routes.

Okay News reports that security operatives have been placed on high alert across strategic locations in the city, including Ikeja, Lekki, and the Lagos Island axis. The move aims to prevent any form of chaos or obstruction to public movement.

Lagos Police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed that the activist was being sought in connection with intelligence suggesting plans to incite citizens under the guise of a demonstration. “We have credible information about efforts to instigate disruption and endanger public safety,” Hundeyin said.

Sowore, who has long been known for his activism and criticism of government policies, is yet to respond to the police declaration. His supporters, however, have described the move as another attempt to silence dissent.

The Lagos State Police Command has urged residents to go about their daily activities peacefully and to avoid being drawn into what it described as “unauthorized political agitation.”
