NEW YORK, United States The Spain men’s national football team defeated Argentina 1-0 to win the 2026 FIFA World Cup on July 19, 2026.
The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) announced the achievement on the social media platform X on Sunday. Okay News reports that Spain is the first nation in football history to hold the men’s and women’s global titles at the same time.
“History-makers Spain have become the first nation to hold both the @FIFAWorldCup and @FIFAWWC simultaneously!” FIFA said.
The Spain women’s national football team won the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup after securing a 1-0 victory over England in Sydney, Australia. Olga Carmona scored the decisive goal in that tournament.
The victory gives the Spain men’s team its second world title, following a win at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. The men’s squad also won the UEFA European Championship in 2024.
