Spain Thrash Saudi Arabia 4-0 to Claim First World Cup Win

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

ATLANTA, United States — Spain produced a commanding display to defeat Saudi Arabia 4-0 and record their first victory of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, moving to the top of Group H.

Okay News reports that the European champions responded emphatically after being held to a surprise draw by Cape Verde in their opening match, overwhelming Saudi Arabia with a dominant attacking performance at Atlanta Stadium.

Lamine Yamal opened the scoring in the 10th minute after finishing from close range following a cross from Mikel Oyarzabal. Spain continued to dictate proceedings and doubled their advantage before halftime, with Oyarzabal finding the net as Saudi Arabia struggled to contain the Spanish attack.

Oyarzabal added his second goal of the match after the break to effectively end the contest, while Spain maintained relentless pressure throughout. The Spanish side created numerous chances and controlled possession for long periods, limiting Saudi Arabia to only a handful of opportunities.

The victory was completed with a fourth goal as Spain capped off one of their most convincing performances in recent months. A late effort that would have made it 5-0 was eventually ruled out for offside following a VAR review.

With the result, Spain moved to four points from two matches and climbed to the top of Group H.
