‘Stay Out of It’ — Trump Tells NATO on Hormuz Crisis

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

Washington D.C., UNITED STATES — President Donald Trump has publicly rejected an offer of assistance from NATO regarding the Strait of Hormuz, launching a fresh verbal attack on the military alliance despite the recent easing of naval tensions.

Okay News gathered that the President took to his Truth Social platform on Friday, April 17, 2026, to disclose that NATO officials had reached out to offer support following the reopening of the critical shipping lane. Trump stated that he told the alliance to “stay away,” suggesting their only useful role would be to act as commercial oil transporters.

In his characteristically blunt style, the President described NATO as a “Paper Tiger” and claimed the organization was “useless” when help was actually needed during the height of the blockade. These comments come just hours after the UK and France announced a joint independent plan to protect freedom of navigation in the region, notably moving outside of a broader NATO framework.

The Strait of Hormuz, which handles nearly a fifth of the world’s oil consumption, was reopened earlier today following a ceasefire agreement. While international partners are seeking a permanent multilateral security arrangement, Trump’s latest rhetoric signals a continued “America First” approach, prioritizing direct deals and regional partnerships over traditional trans-Atlantic military coordination.
