The Edo State Government has declared that Philip Shaibu is impersonating the deputy governor and should cease presenting himself as such. This follows a Federal High Court ruling in Abuja reinstating Shaibu as deputy governor on July 17, after his impeachment by the Edo House of Assembly.

However, the state government has appealed the judgment and filed for a stay of execution pending the determination of the appeal. Commissioner for Communication and Orientation Chris Nehikhare stated that Shaibu’s correspondence with institutions and organizations as deputy governor constitutes impersonation and should be disregarded.

The government emphasized that the status quo remains, with Omobayo Marvelous Godwins as the deputy governor.

Security agencies have been alerted to potential security breaches arising from Shaibu’s actions. The matter is scheduled for further hearing on September 24, 2024.
