The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has officially declared Sunday, March 30, 2025, as Eid-el-Fitr Day, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan, Okay.ng reports.

The declaration follows the sighting of the Shawwal moon, which signifies the conclusion of the 29-day fasting period observed by Muslims across the globe.

The Sultan, who is the President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), made the announcement on Saturday night after receiving credible moon sighting reports from various parts of the country.

With the crescent moon now confirmed, Muslim faithful in Nigeria and around the world will celebrate Eid-el-Fitr on Sunday with prayers, thanksgiving, and festivities.

Eid-el-Fitr, which means “Festival of Breaking the Fast,” is one of the most significant holidays in the Islamic calendar. It is typically marked with congregational prayers at designated grounds and mosques, family gatherings, charitable giving (Zakat al-Fitr), and communal meals.

The Sultan congratulated Muslims on the successful completion of Ramadan and urged them to uphold the virtues of self-discipline, compassion, and devotion instilled during the fasting period.
