Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has officially announced that Eid al-Adha, also known as Sallah, will be celebrated on June 28.

This important religious festival in Islam is marked by the sacrificial slaughtering of rams, symbolizing the “festival of sacrifice.”

The announcement of the Eid al-Adha date was made through a statement released by the national moonsighting committee on Sunday evening.

“The Sultanate Council Sokoto has declared Monday 19/June/2023 as the first day of Zul-Hijjah 1444 AH. Accordingly, Wednesday 28/June/2023 will be the day of Eidul Adha 1444 AH,” the statement reads.

“His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa‘ad Abubakar, CFR, mni, wishes the entire Muslim Ummah happy Eidul Adha Mubarak in advance.”

Eid al-Adha holds a significant place in the hearts of Muslims worldwide as it commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son, Isma’il (Ishmael), as an act of obedience and dedication to God.

It serves as a reminder of the importance of faith, selflessness, and devotion in the face of trials.
