Nigeria’s Super Eagles have paid tribute to the memory of late football icon Samuel Okwaraji following their hard-fought 1-0 victory over Angola in the quarterfinals of the ongoing African Cup of Nations, Okay.ng reports.

Okwaraji, a revered Nigerian international, tragically collapsed and passed away while representing his country during a 1990 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Angola in Lagos, leaving an indelible mark on the nation’s football history.

In a heartfelt gesture, the Super Eagles took to their official social media platform to dedicate their recent triumph against the Palancas Negras to the memory of the late legend, acknowledging his unwavering commitment and sacrifice to Nigerian football.

“Today’s victory over Angola is a poignant reminder of the adamant spirit of Nigerian football. As we celebrate this triumph, we also honor the memory of Late Samuel Sochukwuma Okwaraji, who tragically left us while playing against Angola 35 years ago,” the post read.

“His passion for the game and sacrifice will never be forgotten. Rest in peace, Samuel Okwaraji, your legacy lives on,” the heartfelt tribute concluded.
