Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has revealed that he is still experiencing pain from the injury he sustained during Nigeria’s round of 16 match against Cameroon in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament on Saturday night.

Nigeria secured a convincing victory over Cameroon, with Ademola Lookman’s brace propelling the Super Eagles to the quarter-finals while ending Cameroon’s AFCON journey.

However, Nwabali, who was the preferred goalkeeper ahead of Francais Uzoho, had to be substituted in the second half after colliding with Cameroonian midfielder André-Frank Zambo Anguissa.

In a post-match interview with journalists, the 27-year-old goalkeeper expressed his discomfort, indicating that the severity of the injury is still being assessed by the national team doctors.

“Maybe the doctor would tell,” Nwabali stated while giving an update on his condition. “But I’m still feeling pains. You know when injury is new, you always feel pains.”

Nwabali’s injury leaves him uncertain for Nigeria’s upcoming quarter-final clash with Angola, raising concerns for Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro, who may have to rely on either Uzoho or Olorunleke Ojo in goal.

The Super Eagles are set to face Angola, known for their free-scoring prowess, in the quarter-final match scheduled for Friday, February 2.
