Nigeria’s Super Eagles, were the heroes on Monday night after defeating Mozambique 4-0 to advance to the quarterfinals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The match, held at the Fez Stadium in Morocco, saw star striker Victor Osimhen find the net twice, with additional goals from Akor Adams and Ademola Lookman sealing a comprehensive victory for the former champions.

Okay News reports that the win sets a milestone for Nigeria, as they become the only team in the tournament so far to maintain a perfect record with four wins from four matches. Nigeria also set a new tournament record, becoming the highest-scoring side with 12 goals total and the first team to score four goals in a single match during this edition.

The victory was complemented by a solid defensive showing, earning the team their first clean sheet of the tournament. While Mozambique’s historic first knockout appearance ended in defeat, Nigeria now prepares for the next stage of the competition as the form team to beat.
